Dorsal extensions are used to make lanyard connections easier and to reduce false hook ups. They attach to the back D-ring on a harness to extend the lanyard attachment point downward, making it is easier to reach.

They can be either energy absorbing or non-energy absorbing and are available in standard polyester or Kevlar®. Different connections are available, including permanently attached, snap hook or pass through loop.

CAUTION must be exercised when using a dorsal extension. The connecting lanyard MUST be reduced by the length of the dorsal extension so the maximum free fall distance does not exceed 6 feet (1.8 meters).
